Benches for the community

One of the things we are proud to do here at North Portland Tool Library is to give back to our community.  Our members all reside within the North Portland district.  This year we took the opportunity, with the help of Salvage works, to create some benches for our local Community Gardens.

How to Make A Rain Barrel

Join us Oct 5th and learn how to make a Rain barrel!

Location Kenton Firehouse

Time 10am- 12pm

Facilitator:  John

Cost:  Suggested donation $5 .00

John will be demonstrating the proper way to build a rain barrel with the final product going on the auction block at the end of the class!  What a great way to get ready for winter and the rainy weather!

Volunteer Coordinator

Volunteer Coordinator


The volunteer coordinator manages all elements of volunteering for the North Portland Tool Library. In particular, assessing the organization’s needs and then meeting those needs through the recruitment, placement and retention of volunteers. The volunteer coordinators will manage and monitor all volunteer activities.


Responsibilities Include:

◾Researching and writing volunteer policies and procedures

◾Generating volunteer opportunities and role descriptions

◾Ensuring there is appropriate support and training for volunteers

◾Promoting volunteering (internally and externally)through recruitment and PR strategies and campaigns

◾Recruiting volunteers and assigning them to roles that match their interests and skillsets

◾Partaking in public outreach activities

◾Nominating volunteers for awards and, with the help of the board, organizing “thank you” events

◾Offering advice and information to volunteers and external organizations through outreach activities via face-to-face,telephone and email contact

◾With assistance from the board, organizing volunteer recruitment events

◾Attending monthly board meetings

◾Monitoring and evaluating volunteer activities

◾Maintaining volunteer database


Ideal Volunteer:

◾Strongly supportive of the mission and need for NPTL.

◾Committed to enriching the community

◾Proficient in MS Word/Excel

◾Available 5-7 hours a month, during peak times

◾In possession of a take-charge attitude

◾Able to work with people of diverse backgrounds

◾Willing to work with an all-volunteer board to promote tool library activities
