Volunteer Here!

Great way to get involved with your community.   Bonus!  First tool selections! ( ie you get a lawn mower if it comes in! Or whatever your tool of choice is!)  Work off fines!

Saturday Morning Front Desk.   8:45—11:30 AM   Help organize and keep the line moving.   Inspect tools and cables.  Assist in tool selection.  Socialize and have a good time!

Tuesday Evening Front Desk:   4:45–7:45 PM  Help organize and keep the line moving .   Inspect tools and cables.  Assist in tool selection.  Socialize and have a good time!

Please email info@northportlandtoollibrary.org or talk to Darin when the tool library is open.  

Other opportunities include

  • Tabling at events
  • Tool repair
  • Tool maintenance and sharpening
  • Data entry (putting new tools in the system)
  • Organizing workshops
  • Outreach to new demographics
  • And more!

ALL levels of experience are welcome – we’re happy to help you learn as needed!

There are also monthly board meetings, which are open to the public.  Attend board meetings if you’re interested in strategic planning.  They will be focusing on independence,  building, volunteer and fundraising. 

The next board meeting is Monday, January 21, 2019 at 5pm in the Kenton Firehouse on the 2nd floor.

Volunteer Coordinator

 

The volunteer coordinator manages all elements of volunteering for the North Portland Tool Library. In particular, assessing the organization’s needs and then meeting those needs through the recruitment, placement and retention of volunteers. The volunteer coordinators will manage and monitor all volunteer activities.

 

Responsibilities Include:

◾Researching and writing volunteer policies and procedures

◾Generating volunteer opportunities and role descriptions

◾Ensuring there is appropriate support and training for volunteers

◾Promoting volunteering (internally and externally)through recruitment and PR strategies and campaigns

◾Recruiting volunteers and assigning them to roles that match their interests and skillsets

◾Partaking in public outreach activities

◾Nominating volunteers for awards and, with the help of the board, organizing “thank you” events

◾Offering advice and information to volunteers and external organizations through outreach activities via face-to-face,telephone and email contact

◾With assistance from the board, organizing volunteer recruitment events

◾Attending monthly board meetings

◾Monitoring and evaluating volunteer activities

◾Maintaining volunteer database

 

Ideal Volunteer:

◾Strongly supportive of the mission and need for NPTL.

◾Committed to enriching the community

◾Proficient in MS Word/Excel

◾Available 5-7 hours a week, during peak times

◾In possession of a take-charge attitude

◾Able to work with people of diverse backgrounds

◾Willing to work with an all-volunteer board to promote tool library activities
